Child Life Practicum

I was required to complete a project that addressed the needs of the Child Life department at Mercy Children's Hospital and Clinics that the hospital could continue to use in the future.

I created this EEG Preparation book to help pediatric patients know what to expect when they needed an EEG.

This practicum was a 120-hour Practicum in which I observed Child Life Specialists in various different departments. I spent 3 weeks in the NICU, 3 weeks in General Pediatrics, PICU and Endography, and 2 weeks in Medical Imaging and Radiology. My assigntments were as followed:

  • Weekly readings in Psychosocial Care of Children in Hospitals: A Clinical Practice Manual from the ACCH Child Life Research Project

  • Weekly definitions of 10 medical terms

  • Weekly assignments pertaining to Child Life practice

  • Daily reflection journals
